Hacking the SideKick III
Hacking The Side Kick I recently bought a SideKick3 and while I am impressed with it, I was not happy about the fact that you could not set your own background and had to use the ones on the unit. So, I set out on the web looking for hack tips and found a way to add your own background to the SideKick3. 1. Plug your SideKick into your USB port using the USB cable. 2. Using Explorer, navigate the your SideKick intil you see the area with the folders DCIM and Music. 3. Create a new folder and name it Themes. 4. Inside the Themes Folder, create a new folder for each theme you want to add. 5. My themes are named after Jamie Eason who I have a crush on and met at a fitness expo and had my picture taken with her. So, I wanted that picture as my background. (My wife wasn't happy, but tough.) 6. Inside your new them folder(s) add the image you want to show up. The image will need to be sized to 240x138 to show correctly and need to be a png format. 7. Add your second image for the subcategory. 8. Open windows notepad or another text editor that does not add tags and create a new file named "theme.txt". 9. In the theme.txt file, place the following: # JameandMe # string Name(en_US) jamie bitmap ring-background jamie.png bitmap ring-folder-background jamie.png bitmap chooser-phone-splash-screen person.png (replace the Jamie references with your image names) Save the file and unplug your USB cord to make the changes take effect. Now, when you view your background options on the SideKick, your new themes will be among them. |
